History and summary by the owner of upgrades done on Varuna.

We purchased the boat in the spring of 2018 and were the second owner of the boat. The boat was located in Denmark where the first owner had used the boat as a “summer house” where he only did short sailing trips in Danish and Swedish waters. Every year the boat was de-masted and kept indoors in a warm storage. The boat and the engine have always had an annual professional service.

In 2018 we sailed the boat from Denmark to The Netherlands where she has been kept in Marina Muiderzand. In the summer she has been in the water and in the winter on land. We have during our ownership sailed the boat around the Netherlands and from March to July 2020 we lived onboard. July 15, 2020 the boat was placed on the hard and we moved back to Sweden. Our ambition was to make the boat ready for long term cruising and since our purchase, we have in addition to regular maintenance done the following:

2018

• Installed an AIS 700 Class B splitter with a 3-year warranty cost €2500
• Installed a Viking liferaft 6 persons iso pack 2 cost €2732
• Gas hoses replaced and system pressure tested in the galley
• Gas alarm installed
• All inside lights replaced with LED
• All cushions steam cleaned

2019

• Underwater body primer Seajet 115 and 3 layers of antifouling seajet 023 (red, blue, blue).
• All anods changed (spare anods are included)
• Above waterline hull cleaned using Epifanes hull cleaner and polished and waxed using Epifanes Seapower cleaner & wax.
• Service of all winches (extra spares onboard))
• Service of the anchor winch (extra spares onboard)
• Installed a new hydraulic back stay tensioner €2000
• Replaced the flexible rubber stops on the Gori Propeller
• Authorized Volvo Penta service company “Marine Service Loosdrecht” did a full service of the engine and replaced the turbo charger, the flexible coupling, replaced the exhaust gas elbow, adjusted the valve clearance, installed a new expansion tank etc. Total cost of service €7074
• Installed a rope cutter
• Replaced all fire extinguishers
• Installed smoke detectors
• Teak deck treated with Boracol
• Replaced all curtains
• Installed a lee cloth in the salon
• Professional rigging company (Rake Rigging) conducted the following to a cost of €18198:
• Mast inspection
• Replacement of all standing and running rigging
• Installation of a whisker pole and arrangements to pole out the headsail
• Installation of a preventer system
• Installation of Jacklines
• Installation of removable inner forestay
• Installation of removable storm back stays
• Installation of radar reflector
• Installation of mast steps at the top of the mast
• All external lights on the boat converted to LED lights
• Service of main sail electrical furling system
• Service of rodkick

2020

• Above waterline hull cleaned using Epifanes hull cleaner and polished and waxed using Epifanes Seapower cleaner & wax.
• Teak deck treated with Boracol
• Added two layers of blue antifouling
• Service of bow thruster
• Service of Engine Gearbox €1850
• Extra hull insulation with 19mm Armaflex under aft bed
